Thoughts on Last Nights Broadcast
I am still overwhelmed by the support this email has received. For those of you who missed the show, there was the usual rant from Salty Balty, who did not agree. That’s okay, cause Salty speaks from the heart every time he calls in. He is a fan.
David Fleming did not agree. He made a valid point about the Giants organization and their efforts to make past players and stars available to us at the park. He spoke of a rich history. He spoke of a management that was very aware of what it meant to be a Giant. It was all true, and yet it also spoke to my point.
The management knows. The Clubhouse knows. But the fan isn’t getting it. Dave, you illustrated my point. There is a disconnect between the organization and the person in the stands. The History and the spectator. The Drama and the occupant of space at 24 Willie Mays Plaza. Else why do they sit, whilst others cheer?
We are fortunate as to have announcers and broadcasters that understand this game, this franchise, and this audience. But your comments made me realize how little I really know about my club. So I will make a greater effort to understand. Meanwhile, I would like to see a new advertising campaign from the top. One that doesn’t encourage disinterested sunbathers to merely occupy space.
In the mean time, It is our responsibility to get out to the park and take back the seats from idle spectators, to make some noise, electrify the air, and get our boys pumped up.
To Bill of Pleasant Hill,
I can’t figure out how you get to the park. Unless you take 215 all the way around the base of the peninsula, I can’t see how you get there without crossing a bridge or taking BART through Oakland or catching a ferry. But come on Bill, who takes the ferry?
