I Think it’s Time to Stop
One third of the way through the NL West death march to the All Star Break, and my focus turns toward third base. Mr. Pedro Feliz has put up with a hell of a lot of criticism this year from the fans, from the media, and . . . uh - ther people. Anyway.
It’s time for it to stop. What was thought to have been a typical ‘Happy Feet Streak’ has developed into a stable source of disciplined offensive prowess. Mr. Feliz, welcome to my fantasy team. I know it isn’t much, but it’s all I have to give. Thank you for all you have done this week. keep up the good work.
Next project, Armandos attitude. It’s coming.
I’m not sold on Pedro. (Although he is on fantasy team as well. All National League pool.) He is not a young guy (I think 31) and he still hasn’t shown good plate discipline. Everyone keeps waiting for him to come around and break into a 25hr .300 season. I don’t think that will ever happen. He’s streaky and we need more stable production. I think he’s a step up from Neikro at first who I think will never be consistant at the ML level. Can someone say Jacob Cruz!
We need corners that produce. We need prodution in the 25+ hr range and .280 to .330 range in batting. Take a look at the team thats killing right now, the NY Mets.
1B Delgado .252 22 dongs
3B Wright .316 20 dingers
Even with a slow start by Delgado, he’s still clubbing HR’s.
Here is what we have
1B Niekro .249 4 hrs 10 trips to the DL.
3B Feliz .274 15 bombs Good last 10 days to bring avg up.
Let’s make a move for Cabrera .334 15 dongs. Let’s work on getting Helton out of Colorado.
I’ll “Vote for Pedro” to be traded. Package him and Niekro and a pitcher for some bats.

Got to tell you that I can’t disagree. Although Pedros discipline has improved remarkably, I don’t see him as a franchise player. Certainly nothing to build a team around. I agree that while he is hot he is our most valuable trading comodity. But I don’t think we’re going to get a lot for him. We will probably have to sell some pitchers, and they have been doing okay as of late, this seasons track record hasn’t been so hot. So it’s really going to come down to dollars.
The only real hope we have for picking up young upper echelon talent through is offering to ease the finacial burden of another team. And our front office hasn’t been willing to play that kind of moneyball. Unless there are any other children of Giants hall of fame players out there, there isn’t going to be that kind of effort made. And I guess that’s okay.
At heart I don’t like the idea of moneyball. As attractive as it is right now to just rip a pennant and a series from the fates of baseball, Yankee style trophies look plastic to me.
